Empowering young adults and their families within rare disease communities

About
Hi! My name is Zainab Alani. I’m 19 years old and I’m battling the rare condition generalised Myasthenia Gravis (gMG). I was diagnosed at age 15 and had to endure many scans, tests and even a lumbar puncture to get my diagnosis in the end. For a long time, I did not feel comfortable sharing or talking about my condition to anyone except my immediate family because, even if I mentioned MG, barely anyone knew what it was since it is a rare condition. However, after winning the 2021 Student Voice Prize, I gained the confidence to open up about my journey and raise awareness for MG through my platform. I hope by engaging with my blogs, posts or stories that you can better understand what it’s like to live with a lifelong diagnosis from a young age so that you can better support those around you!
